At Revive Black, our mission is to bridge the digital divide by empowering individuals and small businesses through technology. One of our most poignant collaborations was with Morgan Brown, the dedicated owner of Cozy Home Child Care and Learning Center in Avondale, Cincinnati.
Morgan's journey began in 2020 when she expanded her in-home daycare into a full-fledged center at the Avondale Town Center, eventually caring for over 50 children ranging from six weeks to 12 years old. Recognizing the need for a stronger digital presence to reach more families, Morgan partnered with Revive Black through our Legacy Program. Together, we enhanced her website, making it more accessible and informative for parents seeking quality child care.
The results were immediate and encouraging. The updated website led to an increase in inquiries and scheduled tours, allowing more families to discover the nurturing environment Morgan had created. This digital transformation not only boosted enrollment but also strengthened the center's reputation within the community.
However, despite these advancements, unforeseen challenges arose. In late April 2023, eviction proceedings were initiated against Cozy Home Child Care. Morgan, believing there was still hope to resolve the situation, continued to seek assistance from city leaders and organizations. Unfortunately, families were abruptly informed over a weekend that the center would be closing immediately, leaving them scrambling for alternative child care options. The center was open the following Monday solely for families to collect their belongings. (Read the WLWT article)
This sudden closure disrupted the lives of many families and left eight staff members unemployed. While the digital enhancements provided by Revive Black had positioned Cozy Home for growth, they couldn't shield the center from systemic issues beyond our control.
Morgan's story underscores the multifaceted nature of the challenges faced by small business owners, particularly those in underserved communities. While technology can be a powerful tool for growth and outreach, it must be complemented by equitable support systems and fair practices.
At Revive Black, we remain committed to supporting entrepreneurs like Morgan, advocating for comprehensive solutions that address both digital disparities and the broader systemic barriers that hinder progress. Through continued collaboration and community engagement, we strive to create an environment where all businesses have the opportunity to thrive.
